How Not to Use Wireless Hidden Cameras

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

New York police say a college employee inadvertently photographed himself planting a motion-activated camera in a women’s locker room at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

They tell local media that 56-year-old Thomas McMartin, of Hoosick Falls, was arrested Friday and pleaded not guilty to felony charges of unlawful surveillance and burglary. McMartin declined to comment.

The college says he was fired from his job as a heating and cooling supervisor and barred from the upstate New York campus soon after the camera was found.

Uses for Spy Camera Watches

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

We live in an era where everything is being videotaped. Whether it’s through security surveillance cameras installed in businesses, in public areas, on highways and interstates, or cellphones; you never know when you might be captured on video. What would you do if you knew someone was conducting shady business practices and you wanted to catch them in the act? Would you whip our your cellphone and begin recording them? That would be too obvious and you would probably be asked to put it away, or it might even be confiscated. So how can you sneak in a hidden camera into scenarios or situations where you wanted to covertly capture something on video? A great innovation is the spy watch camera. This affordable hidden camera is a great tool for capturing digital video covertly. The spy watch camera looks like an actual watch, keeps time like a regular watch, but also has concealed in its casing a tiny hidden camera and storage. Normally they look like dive watches and are also water resistant. Imagine if one of your coworkers was behaving unprofessionally at work and none of your superiors were willing to believe it? You would need  to be able to capture proof. Obviously you can’t set up a camera in plain sight to record their behavior, but you certainly could interact with them while wearing a spy watch camera. After recording the offensive scenario, simply connect the watch to your computer with a USB cable and download the video! I imagine “Q” would have wanted one for James Bond, who had lots of gadgets that were not available in “real” life. The spy watch camera is real! Here is an example of one (click the image for more information):

Baby Monitor Cameras Can Catch Thieves!

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

This news story is pretty awesome ~ it’s great when the bad guys get caught. A church in Carmichael, CA used the pastor’s baby monitor camera to help catch some suspected copper thieves. The church had been targeted by copper thieves two nights in a row, and then the pastor had a great idea. Members of the church set the baby monitor camera up on the top of Carmichael Bible Church and hooked it up to a monitor in a room in the church building. They took shifts watching it throughout the night and then at 4:30 AM,  the suspects showed up again to steal copper from the churches HVAC units. The pastor called the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and the authorities apprehended the suspected thieves. Click here to read the complete news story.

This story provides yet another example of how surveillance cameras can thwart criminals. In this difficult economy, these types of crimes are becoming more prevalent. The damage that these criminals caused to their HVAC units will cost the church around $50,000. If you own a business, church or home that you would like to protect, you might consider installing surveillance cameras, or re-purpose a baby monitor camera. This sleek, low-profile, bullet camera can be used indoors or outdoors in low light settings.

Air Freshener Hidden Camera

Friday, March 9th, 2012

In December in Plano, TX., NBC did a story on wireless hidden cameras where they discussed how far the technology has come along in the last 15 years. Ordinary household items can contain tiny hidden cameras. Alarm clocks, exit signs, a cuddly teddy bear, and even mirrors can contain wireless hidden cameras. While hidden cameras can give you and your family peace of mind, they are also used by companies to watch their employees. Chances are you have been secretly recorded.  Click here to read the story that describes how one person in Plano, TX. was using a wireless hidden camera disguised as an air freshener, like the one seen below. Driving School Used Mini Hidden Cameras to Cheat on Test

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Here’s another example of an unusual way that mini hidden cameras can be used…

A driving school in Brooklyn, New York, helped students pass written exams that the State of New York requires for people who seek commercial drivers’ licenses. The married couple who ran the driving school used a very interesting method to help their students pass the written tests. They outfitted at least one student, and possibly hundreds more, with jackets containing mini hidden cameras. The cameras would “beam” the test questions to someone who would then beep the correct answers back to the applicant.

Sadly, one of the drivers from this school was behind the wheel of a bus that crashed in Virginia last year killing four people and hurting dozens of others. The husband and wife team were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. Prosecutors said they helped an undercover agent posing as an aspiring commercial driver cheat on the written exam in exchange for $1,800. [Source]

There are many different reasons for using mini hidden cameras – For many people, the reason that they use a mini hidden camera is to keep watch and monitor people, places and things they they’re concerned about. For parents, a hidden nanny cam is a great tool to use when checking out how your babysitter is treating your children when you’re not there. For business owners, hidden spy cameras are helpful in keeping close tabs on your employees and making certain your inventory is kept safe while you’re away. They can be disguised as normal household items and can be as tiny as a pen, watch or sunglasses. Click the image below to see several options for mini hidden cameras:

Cops Discover Who Was Stealing Their Lunches with Portable Spy Camera

Monday, March 5th, 2012

What an interesting use for a portable spy camera…

Police in Deer Park, Texas were getting tired of their food and drinks being disappearing from the refrigerator in the station’s break room. The Police Chief authorized a sting using a portable spy camera because the thefts had been going on for “too long”. Although the items being stolen were of little value, theft is still theft.

The sting caught the officer who was doing the stealing using the portable spy camera and he was charged with misdemeanor theft and suspended for 30 days without pay. Guess what his excuse was? He says that he was merely taking it upon himself to keep the shared refrigerator clean! [Source]

Do you need to use a portable spy camera to catch someone doing wrong in your home or business? Spy cameras come in many different shapes and sizes. Click the image below to learn about some of the options available to you:

Considering a Wireless Nanny Cam? Things to Consider:

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

More and more parents are considering using a wireless nanny cam. Research shows that over the past five years there has been a 25 percent increase in the sales of nanny cams. Is it a good idea, or an invasion of privacy? Before you make the decision to purchase one, consider the following:

Advantages of Using a Nanny Cam

There are a variety of cameras available on the market today. Most are wireless and can be hidden in almost any type of household item from a plant to a stuffed animal. Peace of mind and confidence in child care are reasons why some families opt to “spy” on their child’s provider.

Disadvantages of Using a Nanny Cam

Studies and polls show that many care providers are not necessarily against video taping of child-provider interaction, it’s just that they want to know about it. It seems to be a matter of trust and feeling of deception.

Other Uses For In-Home Surveillance

Spy cams can be used for many other reasons than just child care. The device can be used while your home is being cleaned, for occasional in-home sitter services, and for security reasons.

There are so many different types of wireless nanny cams and hidden cameras. Click the image below to learn about your options.
